I watched The Pretender pretty regularly when it was on from '96 to
2001, I loved it.
The efforts by Jarod to make the world a better place, his constant
teasings to Miss Parker, not to mention his repeated Nose-Thumbing to
the Centre.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they never answered
most of the questions that the series started with. Really all they
ever did was answer one question at the result of three more popping
up.
Jarod had his father with him, the two of them spoke endlessly, but
Jarod NEVER asked his last name,
I know that the writers of the show did this to keep the overall
mystery alive, but if you are going to end the series, can't you at
least satisfy the fans.
TNT is another sore point, they introduced TONS of new questions, but
then they cut it off without ever answering anything.
Right now my wife and I are re-watching all the DVDs in sequence, and
I am trying to put together the last mysteries.
Jacob wrote GENE before he died, I think it was referring to the gene
that made Pretender's special.
When Lyle was on the run and trying to steal something it was Genetic
codes, I believe that the specifics of the what I will call "The
Pretender Gene" was the extremely valuable thing that he was looking
for.
I honestly feel that one of the reasons that M.P. was introduced to
Jarod is so the two of them would have eventually produce a child, the
predisposition to the genius that made Jarod so special seemed to be
genetic and able to be passed on, M.P. had "The Pretender Gene" as
well, but efforts to use her was probably blocked by her father, that
using her as an incubator might have hurt "His Legacy", it might have
hurt her standing to eventually take over the Centre as the Chairman.
Raines planned for years to seize power, Lyle having "The Pretender
Gene" was molded as his instrument to eventually take over and give
Raines the ability to act totally without restrictions.
Let me know what you think, I can always post more of my theories.
Right now we are in season 3 and moving up.
